FAQS

Why does this meal contain fish ?
So, you noticed our Corn Chowder contains smoked fish. It's true! We use bonito flakes, which was our creative way of getting the smoky, umami flavors found in bacon into this dish, keeping it pescatarian and opening it up to more people's dietary preferences.

My corn didn't rehydrate, what do I do?
Dehydrated corn can take bit to fully rehydrate. Ambient temperature and elevation can also work against you here. If you take a bite and notice it's a bit too chewy, simply reseal the pouch and give it a few more minutes!

With Sweet Potato and Smoked Fish

Our take on a New England classic. But don’t call it a soup. This rich stew is loaded with corn, potato and onion. For fish, we chose bonito flake for its smoky and umami flavors. Now you can enjoy this comforting, regional dish in any corner of the world.

  • Bonito flakes add a healthy dose of protein
  • Sweet potatoes are a great source of vitamins A and C, as well as beta-carotene
  • Whole milk, because fat is not only a great source of energy, but also aids with the absorption of vitamins
  • Gluten-free
  • Pescatarian
  • 2-year shelf life

Important WARNING for California Residents

Corn

Corn

We roast our sweet corn in house for a delicious sweet, caramelized flavor. This stew is loaded with roasted corn, which is rich in antioxidants and dietary fiber.
Whole Milk

Whole Milk

As a traditional chowder, we chose Grade A whole milk, for it's richness and healthy fats. Healthy fat, you say? It's true—fat (in moderation) is not only a great source of energy, but also aids with the absorption of vitamins.
Sweet Potato

Sweet Potato

We could have used any 'ol potato in our chowder and it would have been just fine. However, we found that the corn, milk, leeks, and smoked bonito were best paired with the sweeter, more distinct flavors of the sweet potato.

Read all ingredients before buying

I was really excited to have a corn chowder, not being a big fan of fish or shellfish. Unfortunately- I was not expecting there to be fish in my corn chowder. It was the only thing I could taste in this meal. And the smell was overpowering. I offered it to my fish loving friends- and they tasted it but declined. Unfortunately I had to pack it up and haul it out from my BSP trip. I now know to read the ingredient lists more closely, as there are many meals with added fish where I wouldn’t expect. A nice vegetarian corn chowder would be great!

So bad

Although I didn’t care for most of the GTG meals, this one was especially bad. Very, off-putting fishy smell and flavor. Ended up vomiting a few miles down the trail after eating just a small amount. Had to pack out over half of it to the next trash.

Love this one!

For having so few ingredients, this meal is quite flavorful and satisfying. We’ve tried all the meals and this is definitely one of our favorites!

We plan to stick with Good To-Go for dinner along the entire length of our AT Thru-hike. With 13 dinners to choose from, we’ll only repeat meals about twice per month.

Good Flavor

Hearty soup with good flavor. A small plus is that it is slightly less expensive than the other meals.
