FAQS

Is this meal spicy?
Yes, this meal has a fair amount of spice. While not all gumbos are spicy, many are, and we prefer a little heat! Of course, heat is subjective, so if you are the type to find a medium salsa way too hot, then you might steer clear. If you have a tolerance for and enjoy spicy foods, you'll find this dish to be a nice medium-level heat.

What is Gumbo?
Gumbo is a flavorful Creole stew combining African, American Indian and French influences. Most contain roux, which is where our version varies from tradition. All Good To-Go meals are gluten-free, so we rely on the okra to thicken the stew. The holy trinity of bell pepper, onion and celery is cooked with tomato, okra, chiles and filé powder to create this unique regional dish.

New Orleans Style Gumbo With Okra, Chicken and Rice

As a nod to the Deep South, we have created a lightweight, dehydrated version of the Creole classic, Chicken Gumbo. Ours is a traditional gumbo: a thick stew loaded with chicken and okra, the “holy trinity” of green bell pepper, onion and celery, flavored with filé and spices, served up with long grain rice. A great way to jazz up any adventure, you’ll swear it’s homemade.

    • Antibiotic-free chicken
    • Traditional ingredients such as okra and filé powder
    • Long grain white rice
    • Cayenne pepper for its heat and metabolism-boosting properties
    • Gluten-free

This product has been lab tested with an extended shelf life and will have a minimum of two years to consume until its expiration date.

    Important WARNING for California Residents

    Okra

    Okra

Okra has a mild and mellow flavor, but it's best known for its ability to thicken stews, and other dishes, that it's added to. Okra is also good for overall gut health and provides a solid dose of vitamin A, iron and calcium.
    Chicken

    Chicken

We use only antibiotic-free chicken in our Gumbo. While there's many variations of this creole dish—seafood, sausage, etc—we went with chicken as it's a great source of lean protein.
    The Holy Trinity

    The Holy Trinity

The foundation of gumbo, the "holy trinity" refers to onion, celery and green pepper—the Cajun and Louisiana Creole variation of the French mirepiox, (which consists of onion, celery and carrot). The trinity is cooked through and its flavor provides the base for our Chicken Gumbo.

    Best Trail Food

I've tried a lot of pre-made meal companies. Good to Go is the tastiest.

    Chicken Gumbo

I recently hiked the 100 Mile Wilderness and ate almost exclusively Good To-Go meals. They are all delicious and the warmth and spice was such a treat out on the trail!

    Delicious, needs salt

Really excellent quality for dehydrated food. I eat it at home and while traveling for work. Flavorful, good level of heat, but I actually find it to be much improved with some added salt.

    Has a lot of spice.

There is a lot of spicy heat but is kinda bland if that makes any sense.
